{Guest Post} Shannon from The Scribble Pad

Happy Hump-day everyone!! I've been a little m.i.a. this week with the holidays coming up. I've been attempting to do a little relaxing, but that can be hard with everything that's been going on!

Anyways, I'm REALLY excited about this guest blogger. Kinda the most excited I've been about my guest blogger, only because I freakin' love this woman! Shannon is an incredible lady who has an 11 month-old son, who is probably one of the cutest little nuggets I've ever laid my eyes on. Enjoy! And don't forget to visit her over at The Scribble Pad.

Hello and happy day!  I am Shannon {that is me and my husband up there} from The Scribble Pad and I just love Emily. I am thrilled she asked me to hop on over here and share a bit about motherhood with you. Now it is time to let you in on all of the dirty little secrets. Well, sort of.
On Sunday night, I went to a blogger event in DC. It was fabulous, but I stuck out like a sore thumb. The fabulous ladies who attended were perfectly coiffed sporting adorable dresses and knits featuring the latest sequin trend and lots of gold accents! I really thought my outfit was adorable. And then one girl asked me how long ago I graduated college and another asked me if I was a mom. Seriously? You can tell by looking at me? I had even resorted to my pre-baby ways in an effort to “glam” it up for the event. Sigh. I guess I need to step up to the plate and own this thing called motherhood.

I give you a rundown of my life pre and post baby:

pre-baby career woman 

8-10 hours of sleep per night

Shower, dress, blow dry hair, do make up

Silk tops, expensive suits

Happy hours 2-3 nights/week

Sky high heels

note how I have the same 40+ hour/week job, but somehow my title changed…

5.5 hours of sleep per night

Shower, dress, hair air dries mascara is in my desk drawer because I usually forget makeup all together

Cotton, cotton, and more cotton.

And the impetus for all of this change, this little guy:

There are plenty of other changes, but these are the starkest. It is a constant juggling act. I love working, I love my job, and I am thrilled with the child care we have for Behr. I long for play dates and days at the park with other kids and moms along with more time with this little kiddo of mine. I accept the changes that have come and know that I could still rock the silk tops and expensive suits if I was willing to pay more in dry cleaning each month. But there are sacrifices that I gladly accept to be able to get down on the floor at daycare over my lunch break and build towers with blocks. As with most life changes, motherhood came with a few unexpected surprises, both good and bad. And you know, I will take them any day.
