Film Review: Midnight in Paris & Givewaway Winner

Good Morning Everyone! I have another film review to add to my little collection.

The other day this little film called Midnight in Paris came in the mail from Netflix. I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty pumped about it. In fact, as soon as I saw my boyfriend, I said "guess what I got in the mail todayyy??!" And he was pumped in response to my pumpedness.

Anyways, we had been looking forward to seeing this since we had gone away to Portsmouth last month. We had been clicking through the on-demand flicks in our hotel room, and decided to watch something else instead; so I made a mental note to put it on my Netflix queue.

After seeing it, I am a little confused as to why it received Oscar nominations. Seriously confused. I've never really been a fan of Woody Allen, especially his films within the past fifteen years or so. They are always extremely disappointing to me. But because it received so much hype, Dennis and I thought it was going to be this great romantic comedy that we would both actually enjoy.

Wrongo!

It was bad. Like pretty freakin' bad. Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams were an engaged couple visiting her parents in Pairs. Her character was pushy, self-centered, and obviously in love with a different man. Owen Wilson played the lost film screenwriter attempting to write his first novel. One night he drunkenly stumbles into an old car from the 1920's, what he believed to be "the golden age." He bumped into Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald, and partied with them. Night after night, when the clock struck midnight, he would jump into the car and it would bring him to a the flapper-era; where he would drink and dine with the most famous writers and artists of that time.

Although it was a sweet concept, it was poorly portrayed. The script was not that great, and Owen Wilson was the same as always. The only part I enjoyed was Adrian Brody's little camio in the middle of the movie, because he was hilarious and I have a not-so secret crush on him. (I know, I'm weird. Don't judge.)

Don't waste your time. Woody Allen needs to stop filming, because he's just wasting money.

The End.

I actually thought this movie was excellent and very insightful. The costumes were beautiful, the scenery of Paris and the "old times" were equally wonderful and the acting was great on all fronts.

IMBd says it best:
"A family travel to the French capital for business. The party includes a young engaged couple who are forced to confront their differing views of a perfect life."

Also, did you notice that when he travels back in time, someone in that time frame suggests that a prior generation is actually the "golden" era etc... basically ties into the notion that the grass is always greener on the other side -- and if you process it even more you would see that there was an underline political tone...

This was a wonderful and refreshing movie... a "thinking" and thoughtful movie. Thank you for your review, nonetheless.

Peace,
Lauren

I'm so happy to hear that my friends and I are not the only ones who did not like the movie. I also don't get why it got a ton of hype. I find it rather confusing.
